2016 Bulldogs Become First Back-to-Back State Champs

By David Reynaud

In everything in life there is always a first. There are firsts such as Franklin D. Roosevelt becoming the 1st US president to speak on television in 1939 or John Glenn becoming the 1st US astronaut to orbit earth in 1962.

Well, you can now record a new first in the history books as the 2016 Lutcher Bulldog football team will forever be known as the very first team to win back-toback state championships.

Until Saturday’s 40-36 victory over the Amite Warriors in the Class 3A Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Prep Classic in the Mercedes Benz Superdome, zero of the six previous Lutcher state championship teams had made it back to the final game to defend their title.

However, in order to make the trip to New Orleans, the No. 4 seeded Bulldogs must make a stop in St. Francisville this Friday to face the undefeated and No. 1 seeded West Feliciana Saints.
