Lady ‘Dogs Softball Has Successful Week

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog Softball team went a perfect 3-0 in the Teurlings Catholic Tournament last weekend coming away with wins over Teurlings Catholic, Comeaux and Acadiana.

Against Teurlings Catholic, the Lady Bulldogs captured a 10-8 victory.

The Lady 'Dogs led 4-2 at the end of the first inning when Destiny Coleman belted a three-run RBI double and a throwing error plated another run.

Wildcats Suffer Pair Of Losses In Berwick Tourney

The St. James Wildcat Baseball team completed play in the Berwick Tournament and suffered losses to Catholic-New Iberia and to the host school Berwick.

Against Berwick, the Wildcats were shutout by a 21-0 score.

The Panthers took command early plating 14 runs in the first inning. Berwick scored on a stolen base, a stolen base, a RBI single, an error, a RBI single, a stolen base, a stolen base, a RBI double, a RBI single and an error. One bright spot for the Wildcats was a single by Amarin Walters in the first inning.

Bulldogs Finish 1-3 In Monroe Tournament

The Lutcher Bulldog Baseball team traveled to Monroe, LA and finished tourney play with a 1-3 mark. The Bulldogs defeated Bastrop in its first-round contest, but suffered losses to Sylvan Hills, Ouachita Parish and to Erath.

Against Bastrop, the Bulldogs came away with a 14-0 shutout victory.

Lutcher jumped out to a 4-0 second inning lead when Dylan Recotta reached on an error and Gage Gill followed with a walk. A wild pitch plated Recotta and Cade Williamson delivered a RBI single. Williamson would later score on a passed ball.

Lady ‘Dogs Capture Pair Of Wins Over Vandy

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog Softball team captured a pair of victories over the Vandebilt Catholic Lady Terriers last week.

In the first game, the Lady 'Dogs came away with a 11-2 win.

The Lady 'Dogs jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead when Mackenzie Louviere reached on an error and would eventually score on a passed ball.

Wildcats Begin Season With A Trio Of Wins

The St. James Wildcat Baseball team saw its season get under way last week with a trio of wins over Woodlawn, Ellender and Abbeville.

Against Woodlawn, the Wildcats registered a 14-4 victory.

St. James jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead when Jared Tabor singled and Sean LeBeouf reached on an error that plated Tabor. Jonathon Tregre delivered a RBI double to drive in LeBeouf.

The Wildcats added a pair of runs in the second when one run was scored off a passed ball and then LeBeouf hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Mason Cazenave.

St. James increased its lead with four runs in the third when Kobie Fournier smacked a three-run RBI double and Beau Clement followed with a RBI double to make it 8-0.

Bourgeois, Ursin Help Lift Lady ‘Dogs To First Win

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog softball team began its season last week defeating Dominican, but lost to Morgan City and Riverside Academy in non-district contests.

Against Dominican, the Lady Dogs came away with a 5-1 victory.

Dominican jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead on a RBI double to center field. Lutcher would answer in the third inning when Molly Mohon reached on a base hit and then later Baylie Bourgeois delivered a RBI double to drive in Mohon. Brenn Ursin followed with a RBI double to drive in Bourgeois to make it 2-1.

The Lady Bulldogs added three runs in the fifth inning when Mackenzie Louviere reached on a single and later to score on a throwing error. Allie Roussel followed with a two-run RBI single to give Lutcher a 5-1 lead.

Vacherie Sports- South Vacherie’s First Colored Baseball Team Produced Several Great Ball Players

There have always been great sports teams over the years in the South Vacherie area. Vacherie Sports was South Vacherie’s first colored baseball team and they played in Tregre’s Ball Park in South Vacherie in the vicinity of Tregre Street.

Bulldogs Wrap Up Basketball Season With Win Over Wildcats

The Lutcher Bulldog basketball team swept the season series over parish rival St. James by capturing a 73-67 victory in the regular season finalé played at the Wildcat gym. The Wildcats held a 67-66 lead with less than a minute left to play, but the Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run to clinch the win.

A Letter To Jared Poché

I don’t often write opinion pieces in the News Examiner- Enterprise, but I can’t think of a better time to write a few words about my feelings about our hometown boy and LSU starting pitcher Jared Poché. Last Saturday, in his first game/start of the 2017 baseball season, Poché threw a seven inning complete game no-hitter against Army, and but for an error that allowed one base runner, he nearly threw a perfect game.

Lutcher Celebrates Senior Night With 73-59 Win Over Lusher Charter

The Lutcher Bulldog Basketball team honored its three seniors as Jaylin Burns, Draymond Morris and Tariq Belvin played in their final regular season home game against the Lusher Charter Lions. All three played a key role in helping lift the Bulldogs to a 73-59 District 10-3A win over the Lions. Both Lutcher and Lusher are now tied at 3-2 and in second place in the league standings. The season series split with each team winning on its home court. DeLaSalle is in first place with a perfect 5-0 mark.
