Delrie Steps Down As Lutcher Basketball Coach

The Lutcher Bulldog boys basketball team will be seeking to hire a new coach next season. Chase Delrie resigned the position to take the same position at French Settlement high school in Livingston Parish.

Delrie, who guided the Bulldogs to a 9-15 finished this past year, has been the head mentor for the Bulldogs for the past eight seasons. "Lutcher has always been great to me and the experience to work with talented players was great and it has prepared me for this next job," said Chase Delrie.

LHS Cheerleader Mini Camp 2017

Join the LHS Varsity Cheerleaders for a week of fun at Cheerleading Mini Camp! Camp will be held Monday, June 12th, through Thursday, June 15th, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. daily. Registration is $40 if submitted before May 26th and $45 if submitted after May 26th. Cost includes a daily snack and a t-shirt for each participant. Children ages 3- 12 are invited to attend.

Tiger Tour Coming To Thibodaux

LSU fans can meet and greet the top coaches at the school this week as the 2017 Tiger Tour makes its annual visit to Thibodaux on Thursday, May 25.

The Tri-parish Tigers are hosting the event which is being held at the Thibodaux Regional Wellness Center's fifth-floor conference room. New LSU football coach Ed Orgeron along with new basketball coach Will Wade and long time gymnastics coach D.D. Breaux are scheduled to speak. Orgeron replaced Les Miles after the third game of the regular season last year as LSU's interim football coach and was named permanent coach after the season. Wade replaces Johnny Jones who was not retained and Breaux has built her program into one of the best in the country.

Wildcats Travel To Mississippi To Participate In Jamboree

The St. James Wildcat football team recently traveled to Clinton, MS to participate in the Super Clash Jamboree sponsored by Mississippi College. The Wildcats, joined by fellow Louisiana high schools St. Helena Central, East St. John and Warren Easton, were one of 20 teams participating in the event.

The two-day Jamboree featured 10 games that featured two, 12-minute halves. St. James challenged Seminary (Miss.) High School and came away with a 21-0 victory. Seminary finished with a 10-4 record last year and reached the quarterfinal round of the Mississippi Class 3A state playoffs.

Bulldogs, Wildcats Selected To All-District 10-3A Baseball Team

The All-District 10-3A baseball team was announced and both the Lutcher Bulldogs and the St. James Wildcats had several team members selected to the elite squad. Both schools had successful seasons with each making the state playoffs.

The Wildcats finished with a 14-14 mark under first-year head coach Renny Weber. Lutcher reached the regional round of the playoffs and captured the District 10- 3A title with a perfect 8-0 record. St. James finished with a 4-4 mark in league play

Wildcats Conclude Spring Drills With Scrimmage

The St. James Wildcat Football team will end spring drills this Saturday with a scrimmage game against Seminary High School in Mississippi.

The scrimmage is being held on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton, Ms. Several Louisiana high schools are also participating in the scrimmage games that begin on Friday and will run through Saturday. Teams from St. Helena, Ferriday and Rummel are among a host of other LA high schools that are scheduled to scrimmage against Mississippi high schools.

Wildcat head coach Robert Valdez has been using his allotted 10-day practice schedule to get as many reps in as possible. Valdez indicated that his squad has been working on basic fundamentals.

He has been working at players to replace along the offensive line and several holes on defense due to graduation of players from last season.

Bulldogs, Wildcats Each Land Several On All-District 10-3A Team

The All-District 10-3A Softball team was announced and both the Lutcher Lady Bulldogs and the St. James Lady Wildcats had several members selected to the elite squad.

Both schools had successful seasons with each making the state playoffs.

St. James had the best record in the parish finishing with a 21-5 mark. Lutcher went the furthest in the postseason reaching the state tournament in Sulphur for the second straight year.

The Lady 'Dogs captured the District 10-3A title with a perfect 6-0 record. St. James finished with a 4-2 mark.

Lutcher had five players named to the 1st Team All- District squad including the MVP and Coach of the Year honors.

Wildcats Fall To Erath In Low Scoring Affair, 3-1

The St. James Wildcat Baseball team suffered a first-round loss in the Class 3A playoffs when the Erath Bobcats escaped with a 3-1 victory.

The win improves the No. 9 seeded Bobcats to 17- 13 on the season and will advance to the regional round. Meanwhile No. 24 St. James saw its season come to an end with a 14- 14 mark under first-year head coach Renny Weber.

Lady ‘Dogs Eliminated After 4-1 Loss To North Vermilion

The Lutcher Lady Bulldogs Softball team saw its quest of reaching the championships finals in the Class 3A state playoffs came to an abrupt halt when the North Vermilion Lady Patriots registered a 4-1 victory in a quarterfinal playoff played at Sulphur's Frasch Park.

The victory for North Vermilion (31-3) avenges a loss last year when Lutcher defeated North Vermilion in a regional playoff by a 2-0 score.

Bulldogs Begin State Playoffs This Week

The No. seeded 8 Lutcher Bulldog Baseball team will begin the state Class 3A playoffs at home against the No. 25 Port Barre Red Devils. The Bi-District first-round playoff was played earlier in the week.

Results will be in next week's edition of the News Examiner. Winners advance to the Class 3A regional playoffs where a three-game series will be played. Winners in the regional round advance to the quarterfinals where another three-game series will be played.
