Lady Pride B Ends Metro League Play With Wins

The Lutcher High based Lady Pride B traveling 16-Under softball team ended River Parish Metro league play with a pair of wins over St. James and Assumption.

Against St. James, the Lady Pride B captured a 10-0 shutout over St. James Metro.

Wildcats’ Preston Verbally Commits To Miss. State

St. James defensive back Shawn Preston, Jr. enters his senior year and has emerged as one of the state's rising football recruits with 21 offers with growing interest from major football conferences such as the SEC and the Big 12.

Preston choose the SEC after announcing his verbal commitment to Miss. St. recently.

Against St. James, the Lady Pride A came away with a 8-5 victory.

Lady Pride Splits Doubleheader With Assumption In Metro League Play

The Lutcher High based-Lady Pride traveling 16 & 18-under softball teams continued play last week in the River Parish Metro League. The Lady Pride teams split a double- header against Assumption.

In the first game, the Lady Pride A suffered a 5- 3 defeat.

The Lady Mustangs Metro jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead on a RBI ground-out and a RBI single.

The Lady Pride A cut into the deficit with a run in the second when Kristen Poche walked with two outs. Evyn Vicknair followed with a base hit to right field and a throwing error would eventually plate Poche to make it 2-1.

St. James 4-H Youth Excel At 4-H University

On July 20-23, 2016, twenty three 4-H teens from St. James Parish joined nearly two thousand other youth from Louisiana to compete in statewide competitions and attend Clover College at 4-H University at LSU. This year, 4-H University, celebrated with the theme, “4-H University is Out of this World.” Teens who attended stayed in the LSU dorms and were given the opportunity to experience “college life” on the beautiful and diverse Baton Rouge campus, while taking part in the many programs and activities offered by the LSU AgCenter.

Supreme Chevy Splits With Otto Candies

The Lutcher High school-based Supreme Chevy American Legion baseball entry captured a doubleheader over Otto Candies last week.

In the first game, Supreme Chevy came away with a 6-3 victory.

Otto Candies jumped out to a 1-0 second inning lead on a RBI single. Supreme Chevy tied it in the third when Ivan Clark reached on a base hit to right field with two outs. Kylin Vicknair reached on a fielding error. Clark eventually scored on a throwing error.

Lady Pride A Finish 4-0-1 In Tourney Play

The Lutcher High based-Lady Pride A 18- under traveling softball team completed tournament play winning four games and tying one.

The Lady Pride A defeated the Magic three times and the Avengers once and tied the Chancers.

In the first game against the Magic, the Lady Pride A captured a 6-4 victory.

Tigers Fall In CWS Championship Series

Jared Poché becomes All-Time winningest LSU pitcher with victory over Florida State enroute to Championship Series.

Omaha, Nebraska - The LSU Tiger baseball team reached the championship series of the NCAA College World Series (CWS) in Omaha, Nebraska, and the Tigers (52-20) faced SEC nemesis Florida (52-19) in an All-SEC final where the Gators won two games of the best-of three series.

On Monday, LSU dropped the series opener by a narrow 4-3 score, and the Tigers then fell again on Tuesday by a score of 6-1.

Poché Picks Up 38th Career Victory To Tie Most Wins Record

LSU senior pitcher Jared Poché got his chance and took advantage of the opportunity to tie Scott Schultz’s all-time wins record (38 wins from 1992-95) as LSU rallied to defeat Florida State 5-4 in their opening game at the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

Poché entered the game in relief of starter Alex Lange in the seventh inning and freshman Zack Hess of LSU preserved the win in the ninth inning getting the final out with the tying run on second base.
