Students Practice With New Orleans Pelicans

Ms. Melissa Aubert, Behavior Strategist, was invited to bring 5th and 6th grade students from Sixth Ward Elementary to participate in a surprise news announcement for one of the New Orleans Pelicans' player. Students were afforded an opportunity to watch NO Pelicans' team players practice. Following the practice, students and newscasters made a surprise announcement to one valued player.

Coach Gentry, team players, mascot and cheerleaders interacted with students. Players practiced drills with students while encouraging team work. Students received Jr NBA t-shirts and were applauded for their great behavior and assistance with the surprise announcement.

Cavaliers Maul Wildcats

The St. James Wildcat football team suffered a 63-7 loss at home to the De La Salle Cavaliers in a battle for first place in the District 10-3A race.

De La Salle, who improved their record to a perfect 7-0 on the season, made a statement as they took advantage of three blocked punts that went for touchdowns. Meanwhile St. James fell to 6-2 and 2-1 in league play.

The Cavaliers, who are ranked No. 1 in the latest LHSAA Class 3A state poll, control their own destiny in reaching their goal of winning the District 10-3A title.

Comets Run Past The Tigers

Last Friday night, the Comets hosted the Donaldsonville Tigers at Thomas Dupuy Memorial stadium in LaPlace. The Comets quick start led them to a 35-12 victory.

On the opening drive of the game, the Comets run game was dominate over the Tigers defense. The Comets were marching down the field and quarterback Justin Dumas completed a 26 yard pass to receiver Darrin Blystad to set the Comets up for a 4 yard touchdown ran by running back Narquez Jones. Cameron Fabre added the PAT, which got the Comets to an early 7-0 lead.

Bulldogs Maul Warriors

After struggling much of the 2017 season to win games, the Lutcher Bulldogs traveled to Baton Rouge and mauled the St. Michael Warriors by a score of 41-0.

Lutcher, now 2-5, had lost three straight before last week’s dominating performance. The win also improves their District 6-4A record to 1- 1.

Wildcats Celebrate Homecoming With Dominating Victory Over Haynes Academy

The St. James Wildcat football team culminated homecoming festivities in an impressive fashion as they came away with a convincing 54-0 shutout victory over the Haynes Academy Yellow Jackets in a District 10-3A battle played at Wildcat Stadium.

The Wildcats scored early and often and built a 41-0 lead at halftime and would coast the rest of the way playing with backup players in the second half.

Wildcats Outlast Tigers 26-22

The St. James Wildcats handed the undefeated Donaldsonville Tigers their first loss of the season last Friday as the ‘Cats scratched and clawed their way to a 26-22 victory.

The game was played at Donaldsonville’s Floyd Boutte Memorial Stadium and the Wildcats needed a defensive play, where a Tiger pass was tipped out of the end zone in the final seconds to secure the win.

Bulldogs Come Up Just Short In District Opener

This Week Bulldogs set to play St. Michael at Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge

After trailing 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Parkview Baptist Eagles used a ceaseless rushing attack to claw their way back in last Friday’s District 6-4A opener against the Lutcher Bulldogs.

Played in Lutcher, the Bulldogs led all but the last five minutes as the Eagles scored late to tie it 27-28, and most thought with the PAT the game would be tied and possibly decided in overtime.

Comets Suffer First Loss

The Comets bounced back from their only loss of the season by dominating the Lusher Lions 45-0 at Drew Brees Family Field last Friday night. The Comets record improves to 5-1.

The Comets were led by sophomore running back Philip Tran. Tran rushed for 54 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also caught for 74 yards and 1 touchdown. He had a total of 255 all purpose yards. "The injuries made me step up and play hard. There was not much pressure once I got a few snaps."

Comets Suffer First Loss

After defeating two 5A opponents this season, the Comets fell short of knocking off a third as they suffered their first loss of the season to the East Ascension Spartans Friday night in Gonzales by a score of 21-2. The Comets are now 4-1 for the season.

On the Comets first drive, the Comets threw an interception giving the Spartans good field position. The Spartans were able to capitalize with a 52 yard touchdown run by Jimel London. In the middle of the first quarter, defensive end Gavin St. Pierre forced a Spartan fumble and it was recovered by defensive back Bryce Authement. The Comets were unable to capitalize on the turnover.

Lady ‘Cats Suffer Pair Of Losses

The St. James Lady Wildcat Volleyball team remained winless in District 5-IV play after dropping two more league matches to St. Charles Catholic and to Haynes Academy.

Against St. Charles, the Lady 'Cats dropped a 25-6, 25-15, 25-7 decision.

Nyla Batiste led the Lady 'Cats with 24 assists. Teammates Kailah Vedo had three kills and Raysher Lewis had six blocks.

Ke'Asia Simoneaux fired four aces and Brianna Emery led the defense with 17 digs.
