Lady ‘Cats Roar Past Brusly, 69-41

The St. James Lady Wildcat Basketball team captured its seventh win of the season after defeating the Brusly Lady Panthers 69-41 in a non-district contest played last week.

St. James took control early taking a 26-5 first quarter lead. Lauryn Scott led the Lady Wildcat offense pouring in 12 of her gamehigh 28 points in the opening period.

Brusly began to cut into the deficit by outscoring St. James 11-6 in the second quarter to trail 32-16 at the break.

Lutcher Lady Bulldogs Capture Pair Of Wins

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog basketball team suffered a 63-55 loss to the Riverside Lady Rebels in a non-district contest played last week.

Riverside jumped out to a 14-13 first quarter lead and Lutcher moved ahead in the second period as they outscoredthe Lady Rebels 14-11 to take a 27-25 advantage at the half.

Riverside went to fullcourt pressure defense to begin the second half, which forced Lutcher into hurried shots. Riverside then outgunned Lutcher 17-10 in the third quarter to take a 42-37 lead heading into the fourth period.

Local Cheerleader/Dancer To Perform In The London New Year’s Day Parade For The 30th Year

Jordan Brignac from Lutcher High School in Lutcher, Louisiana is one of more than 650 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the U.S. who will be representing Varsity Spirit in the world famous London New Year’s Day Parade.

The individuals invited to perform in the parade qualified for the trip after being nominated as an All-American at one of the summer camps hosted by Varsity Spirit.

Wildcats Earn Spots On All-District 10-3A Team

The St. James Wildcat Football team had several members selected to the All-District 10-3A team that was announced recently.

District champion DeLaSalle dominated the selections which included the Offensive and Defensive MVP awards to go along with Coach of the Year Honor.

Named coach of the year was Ryan Manale of the Cavaliers after guiding his team to the league title. Julian Gums was named the Offensive MVP and Jamiran James was the league's Defensive MVP for DeLaSalle.

Hospital Awards Elite Parish Runners

St. James Parish Hospital recently hosted an event to award parish runners who completed the Run St. James Series Challenge.

With the help of partners Chad Weidert and his wife Susan, founders of the St. James Runners’ Club, the hospital awarded local children and parents who completed at least three of four parish races this fall. Each received a custom series medal commemorating their achievement.

Lady Bulldogs Named To All-District Volleyball Team

The All-District 6-III Volleyball team was announced and several members of the Lutcher Lady Bulldogs were named to the elite squad.

Lutcher finished in third place in the league standings with a 4-4 mark and reached the playoffs and lost in the regional round to finish with a 22-14 overall record.

District champion St. Michael dominated the selections which included the MVP and Coach of the Year awards.

Lady ‘Dogs Win Two Straight

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog basketball team captured a pair of wins in the French Settlement Tournament played last week.

The Lady Bulldogs began tournament play with a 49-21 victory over Springfield.

Lutcher jumped out to a 15-3 first quarter lead and then Springfield outgunned Lutcher 10-8 in the second period to trail 23-13 at the break.

Bulldogs Basketball Remains Winless In 2017

The Lutcher Bulldog basketball team remains winless as they suffered a pair of non-district losses last week to Berwick and to De La Salle.

Against Berwick, the Bulldogs fell by a 49-43 score.

The Panthers jumped out to a 12-8 first quarter lead and then outscored Lutcher 12-6 in the second period to build a 24- 14 advantage at the half.

Lady Wildcats Fall To Terrebonne And Dominican

Last week, the St. James Lady Wildcat basketball team lost two nondistrict games to South Terrebonne and Dominican.

Against South Terrebonne, the Lady 'Cats fell by a 53-43 score.

St. James jumped out to a 12-9 first quarter lead and were led by sophomore forward Raveon Fletcher, who poured in 10 points in the opening period.

Lady Bulldogs Capture 58-53 Win Over New Iberia

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog basketball team ended play in the Walker Tournament with a 58-53 win over New Iberia.

Lutcher jumped out to a 9-1 first quarter lead and then outscored New Iberia 10-8 in the second period to take a 19-9 advantage at the break.

Lutcher then outgunned New Iberia 13-9 in the third quarter to make it 32-18 heading into the final period.
