4-H’er Celebrates Big Livestock Show Win After Years Of Hard Work, Perseverance

Ravin Louque has shown livestock since she was 9 years old. And for most of that time, she has dreamed of winning a sheep contest at the LSU AgCenter Livestock Show.

Louque was nervous in the days leading up to this year’s show. As a high school senior, it would be her last chance to reach the goal she had tirelessly pursued for nearly a decade.

She did it, winning the reserve grand championship — equivalent to second place — in the market lamb contest of the 83rd annual show, which was held Feb. 10 to 17 at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.

Bulldogs Finish 1-2 In St. Charles Catholic Tourney

The Lutcher High Bulldog Baseball team began its season last week finishing with a 1-2 mark in the annual St. Charles Catholic Tournament.

The Bulldogs began tourney play with a 10-0 shutout of the Albany Hornets.

Winning pitcher Mason Keller didn't allow a single hit as the Bulldogs secured the victory thanks to nine runs in the fourth inning.

Lady Bulldogs Split Pair Of Games

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog softball team began its season last week beating the Academy of Our Lady and losing to St. Mary's Dominican.

Against Our Lady, the Lady 'Dogs captured a 11- 3 victory.

Lutcher jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead when Heather Tregre led off with a walk and later Brenn Ursin delivered a RBI ground-out.

FCA Members Attend Sugar Bowl Breakfast

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) members and Alumni FCA leaders from St. Charles Catholic High School attended the 50th Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Breakfast at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside.

Former New Orleans Saints Super Bowl Champion Team member Jabari Greer was a keynote speaker. Greer spoke to the guests about the importance of never giving up, despite whatever conditions one is given in life.

Lady ‘Cats Advance In State Playoffs With Win

The St. James Lady Wildcat Basketball team advanced to the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs by defeating No. 20 seeded the Washington-Marion Lady Charging Indians by a 49-46 score.

The win improves No. 13 St. James to 16-9 on the year and will play No. 4 Carroll on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The winner advances to the quarterfinals set to be played on Thursday, Feb. 22.

The LHSAA Marsh Madness Tournament will be Feb. 26-March 3 at the Rapides Coliseum in Alexandria. It will feature the semifinal and championship games in all classes.

Wildcats Split Pair Of Games

The St. James Wildcat Basketball team ended the regular season splitting a pair of games last week, beating St. Charles Catholic and losing to Lusher Charter school in District 10-3A contests.

Against St. Charles, the Wildcats came away with a 42-37 win. Glenn Brown led St. James with 13 points, followed by Darion Henry with eight and Jarvis Moll added seven points. Jared Parker hauled down six rebounds.

Against Lusher, the Wildcats dropped a 65-44 decision.

Seven Wildcats Partake In National Signing Day

The St. James High School football program was in the spotlight during last Wednesday’s National Signing Day as seven graduating seniors signed their names to extend their football playing careers on the college level.

The seven to sign scholarships (pictured from left to right) were: Keaton Hogan - Culver Stockton University; Shawn Preston - Mississippi State University (actually signed early); Rashod Pierre - Wayne State University; Kyren Harris - Prairieview A&M University; Glenn Brown - Southern University; Kalan Johnson - William Penn University; and Jason Dumas - Prairieview A&M University

A Dream Come True - Lutcher’s Daevon Adams Signs Scholarship To Play Football In The State Of California

Lutcher Bulldog running back Daevon Adams was all smiles last Wednesday as his dream of playing football at the college level came true.

On National Signing Day, Adams signed his name on the dotted line to become a Tiger and play football at Occidental University, located in Los Angeles, California.

Daevon’s parents James and Lisa, several family members, and a host of friends and teammates joined him in the Lutcher High library for this very special occasion.

Lady ‘Dogs To Face South Terrebonne In Playoff Opener

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog Basketball team captured a pair of victories in the District 6-4A tournament taking third place. Now Lutcher will focus on the state playoffs this week. The Lady 'Dogs under first-year head coach Dayna Nicholas, enter the post-season with a 15-10 mark and are seeded No. 21 in the Class 4A nonselect bracket. Lutcher will begin the Class 4A playoffs on the road facing No. 12 South Terrebonne on Thursday, Feb. 16. The winner advances to the second round to play either No. 5 Bossier or No. 28 Morgan City on Monday, Feb. 19.

The Lady 'Dogs completed play in the District 6-4A tournament last week with a first-round win over the Tara Trojans by a 62-15 score.

Lutcher led from start to finish and outscored the Trojans in every quarter to seal the win.

Lady ‘Cats Win Streak Snapped With Loss To Ursuline

The St. James Lady Wildcat basketball team saw its District 10-3A win streak come to and end when the Ursuline Lady Lions registered a 63-37 victory.

The win gave Ursuline sole possession of first place in the league standings with one week left in the regular season. The loss left the Lady Wildcats with a 5-1 mark and in second place.

Ursuline took control early by jumping out to a 15-7 first quarter lead and then outscored St. James 20-11 in the second period to take a 35-18 advantage at the half.
