Lady Wildcats Fall Short In 42-39 Loss To Landry/Walker

The St. James Lady Wildcat basketball team suffered its fourth loss of the season when the Landry/Walker Chargin Buccaneers registered a 42-39 victory.

Both teams ended the first quarter tied at 8-8, but the Lady Bucs moved ahead in the second period by outscoring St. James 14-11 to take a 22- 19 advantage at the break.

Wildcats Roar To 63-35 Win Over Struggling Bulldogs

The Lutcher Bulldog Basketball team remained winless after falling to the Destrehan Wildcats 63-35 in a nondistrict contest played last week.

Destrehan took command early as they jumped out to a 15-4 first quarter lead. Lutcher fared a little better in te second period as they outgunned the Wildcats 11- 10 to cut the deficit to 25- 15 at the break.

Bulldogs Drop Three In Gold Dome Classic

Last week, the Lutcher Bulldog basketball team participated in the annual Gold Dome Classic hosted by St. Amant.

 

The Bulldogs began tourney play with a 77-37 loss to the Thibodaux Tigers. The Tigers moved out to a 15-9 first quarter lead and then outscored Lutcher 21-11 in the second period to take a 37-20 advantage at the break.

 

Thibodaux expanded their lead in the third quarter holding Lutcher to just six-points while pouring in 24 more to take a commanding 61-26 lead heading into the final period

Lady ‘Cats Finish 3-0 In White Castle Tourney

The St. James Lady Wildcat basketball team began play in the White Castle tournament with wins over Assumption and Port Allen. Against Assumption, the Lady 'Cats registered a 47-43 win.

St. James started trong and led 21-5 at the end of the first quarter. However, Assumption began to cut into the deficit as they outscored the Lady 'Cats 14-8 in the second period to trail 29- 19 at the break.

Lady Dogs Fall To St. James, 41-26

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog basketball team dropped a 41-26 decision to in-parish rival St. James in a non-district contest played last week. The Lady 'Cats used a second quarter scoring barage to secure bragging rights on who is the top team in the Parish for this season. Both teams tested each other in the opening period with St. James holding onto a low scoring 7-6 lead.

 

The Lady 'Cats stepped up defensive pressure in the second quarter and limited Lutcher to just two-points in the period. St. James poured in 14 points to take a 21-8 advantage at the break. The Lady 'Dogs managed to outgun St. James 8-6 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 27-16 heading into the fourth period, but the Lady 'Cats maintained their lead throughout the final quarter as they outscored Lutcher 14-10 to seal the 41-26 victory

Comets Fall Short In Semifinals

The Comets season (9- 3) season ended with a hard fought loss against the Cubs of U-High (12-0) in the State Semifinals by a score of 34-14. It was the Comets 9th trip to the semifinals in the past 13 seasons.

U-High wins the toss and elects to receive the opening kickoff. With UHigh threatening to score, Bryce Authement of the Comets intercepts John Mckernan's pass and returns it 41 yards. Neither team was able to score in the opening quarter.

U-High scores first on a 21 yard field goal, giving them a 3-0 lead over the Comets. The Comet offense continues to struggle throughout the second quarter. The Comets turn the ball over when Nash's pass was intercepted by Michael Martin. U-High scores the first touchdown of the game on a 24 pass to Christian Harri. The Comets go into the half down 10-0.

Lady Bulldogs Basketball Team Looking To Rebound With New Coach At The Helm

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog basketball team will have a new head coach this season as Taylor Crappell replaces Fallon Buckner for the 2017-18 campaign.

Crappell was previously the head coach at Morgan City High School and she guided the Lady Tigers to the state playoffs in two of the three seasons at the helm.

Crappell played college basketball at Arkansas-Monticello for four years and then was a graduate assistant coach at Northwestern St. from 2012-14 before going to Morgan City.

Crappell inherits a team that finished with a 11-17 record last year and will have 14 players dot the roster, which includes two seniors in guards Asia Wallis and Chyna Ambrose.

Wildcats Register Second Straight Playoff Shutout

In two Class 3A playoff games, the St. James Wildcat football team has not been scored upon.

The No. 4 seeded Wildcats scored early and often in racing to a commanding 43-0 first half lead before coming away with a convincing 50-0 win over the No. 20 Madison Prep Academy Chargers in the State Class 3A regional round playoffs played at BREC's Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Lady Wildcats Split Pair Of Games

The St. James Lady Wildcat Basketball team saw its season began last week with new head coach Damon Robinson. The Lady 'Cats dropped its opener against Hahnville, but rebounded with a narrow victory over Amite.

Against Hahnville, the Lady 'Cats suffered a 55-32 loss.

Lady Bulldogs Begin Season With Pair Of Wins

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog Basketball team began its season with a pair of victories over White Castle and Donaldsonville last week. The wins were also the debut of new head coach Taylor Creppell. Against Donaldsonville, the Lady 'Dogs captured a 54-37 victory.

Lutcher jumped out to a 12-8 first quarter lead and then outscored the Lady Tigers 12-6 in the second period to take a 24-14 advantage at the half. Junior center Chyna Williams sprearheaded the scoring surge by hitting on layup shots off the zone press in the first period while senior guard Chyna Ambrose netted seven points, including a 3-point goal in the second quarter.
