Bulldogs No Match For Gators

Article Image Alt Text

By David Reynaud Editor

Lutcher Bulldog head coach Dwain Jenkins knew last Friday’s non-district contest against the St. Amant Gators would be a challenge. Well, a challenge it was as the bigger, stronger and faster Gators beat the Bulldogs 40-20 at

“The Pit” in St. Amant. “You can’t take anything away from St. Amant,” said Coach Jenkins.

“Their big guys up front were better than our guys up front. And they took it to us defensively.

” The Gator’s offense could not be stopped as they racked-up 470 yards of offense, made 21 first downs, and converted 7 of 8 third downs.

Wildcats Remain Unbeaten With Shut Out Victory Over Wossman

Article Image Alt Text

By Jim Henderson Sportswriter

The St. James Wildcat football team trekked to north Louisiana to take on the winless Wossman Wildcats and the Wildcat defense helped propel a 19- 0 shutout victory in a nondistrict contest played at Grady Jones Memorial Stadium in Monroe.

The five-hour journey to Monroe, and getting the victory to remain unbeaten after four games, proved to be worthy of their

Top 10 ranking in the Class 3A state poll. “We had a plan coming up here to the Monroe area,” said St. James head coach Robert Valdez. “We handled the trip well and the effort was great by everyone. Our guys on defense stepped up and are playing with a lot of confidence.

We did enough on offense to pull out a win, but our defense has been carrying us. Right now we’re doing enough offensively and the defense is getting us great field position to start our drives with.

Comets Beat Wilkinson County

By SCC Media Student

Last Friday night, the Comets traveled to Mississippi to take on the Wilkinson County Wildcats. After getting off to a slow start, the Comets were able to make enough plays on offense, defense, and special teams to win 20-0. It was another shutout for the Comet defense, which allowed them to advance to 3-0 on the season.

The Comets fumbled on their first possession giving the Wildcats good field position. The Comets defense stood their ground and forced the Wildcats to punt. A couple of drives later the Comets moved the ball down the field to score their first touchdown. Senior running back Narquez Jones rushed for 20 yards on the drive and scored a touchdown on a 5 yard run. Cameron Fabre added the PAT to give the Comets a 7-0 lead with 5:47 left in the second quarter.

Wildcats Claw Through Three Overtimes To Remain Unbeaten

Article Image Alt Text

By Jim Henderson

The St. James Wildcat Football team needed three overtimes to beat the E.D. White Cardinals 27- 21 and improve to a perfect 3-0 on the season.

The loss was the first for the visiting Cardinals and it was a game that saw both teams struggle offensively for two and a half quarters and then forced into three overtime periods to decide the outcome.

“Give E.D. White credit,” said St. James head coach Robert Valdez. “They played with heart and we knew we were going to get their best tonight. But we kept plugging away and for us to finish the way we did was big time.”

The first half was scoreless until the final minute of the second period.

Bulldogs Bounce Back To Beat Marksville

Article Image Alt Text

By David Reynaud

The Lutcher Bulldogs picked up their first victory of the 2017 football season when they beat the Marksville Tigers 35-12 last Friday in Lutcher.

Last Friday’s non-district matchup was, to say the least, a tale of two halves.

The first half featured a Bulldog team that struggled to not commit turnovers, struggled to make defensive stops, and a team that struggled to make plays on offense.

However, in the second half, Bulldog fans saw a totally different team as the defense forced several threeand- outs and shut out the Tigers. The offense found the end zone four times, and zero turnovers were committed.
