Wildcats Capture First District Win

The St. James Wildcat basketball team captured its first District 10-3A victory of the season after defeating the St. Charles Catholic Comets by a score of 55-34.

The victory improves St. James to 1-4 in league play while the Comets remained winless at 0-4.

St. James finished the game with four players scoring in double figures with Devonne White leading the way with 13 points and two blocked shots.

Lutcher Lady Bulldogs Capture Pair Of Wins

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog basketball team captured a pair of District 6-4A wins last week over Tara and Woodlawn.

The victories improved Lutcher to 4-1 in league play with the lone loss coming to St. Michael.

The Lady 'Dogs will be the No. 2 seed heading into the District 6-4A tournament that begins on Thursday, February 8th and runs through February 10th. The tourney is hosted by Lee High Magnet School in Baton Rouge.

Lady ‘Cats Basketball Remains Unbeaten In District 10-3A Play

The St. James Lady Wildcat basketball team remained in first place in the District 10-3A standings after capturing two more league wins over De La Salle and Haynes Academy last week.

The wins improved St. James to a perfect 3-0 in District play with three more league games remaining.

Wildcats Struggle To Find First District Win

The St. James Wildcat basketball team began District 10-3A play on a sour note after losing a trio of games to Donaldsonville, De La Salle and Lusher Charter School.

Against the Donaldsonville Tigers, the Wildcats were defeated by a score of 77-59.

Lady Bulldogs Win One, Lose One; Now 2-1 In District 6-4A Play

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog basketball team suffered their first District 6-4A loss of the season when the Lee High Magnet School registered a 71-30 victory.

The loss left Lutcher with a 2-1 mark in league play.

Lady Wildcats Begin District Play With Win

Local High School basketball games were postponed all last week because of school closures associated with extreme winter weather conditions. The St. James Lady Wildcat Basketball team managed to play last week by capturing its first District 10-3A win of the season with a convincing 74-30 victory over Sacred Heart Academy of New Orleans.

 

The Lady 'Cats jumped out to a 19-5 first quarter lead. St. James used a pressing defense that forced Sacred Heart into hurried shots and turnovers. The Lady 'Cats capitalized on the miscues scoring on fast-break layups. Raveon Fletcher and Charity Cooper led the scoring surge with each pouring in eight points apiece in the opening period

Lady Wildcats Capture 48-38 Win Over Lutcher

The St. James Lady Wildcat Basketball team came away with a 48-38 victory over the Lutcher Lady Bulldogs to secure bragging rights on who the best hoops team is in the Parish for this year. Earlier St. James defeated Lutcher on Nov. 28 to win the season series.

St. James took control early after jumping out to a 17-5 first quarter lead and then outscored Lutcher 9-6 in the second period to take a 26-11 advantage at the break.

Bulldogs Snap Losing Streak With Win Over Wildcats

The St. James Wildcat Basketball team suffered a narrow 51-49 loss to Parish rival Lutcher last week. The victory gave Lutcher its first win of the season after starting 0-12 coming into the contest. St. James won the earlier contest against the Bulldogs on Nov. 28.

Shamar Smith led the St. James scoring attack with 16 points. He also delivered two assists and had one blocked shot. Teammate Glenn Brown had 10 points and Saivon Jones recorded 10 points and hauled down five rebounds.

New Orleans Pelicans’ Junior Training Camp Held At Sixth Ward Elementary School

On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, the New Orleans Pelicans hosted their Jr. Training Camp at Sixth Ward Elementary School. Staff and students in grades 3rd-6th enjoyed a special visit from Pierre, the mascot. During the camp, students learned the importance of healthy living, teamwork and cooperation. Students worked on their passing and dribbling skills while also learning a few random facts about themselves. A poster was on display featuring the 7'7'' wingspan of NBA player Anthony Davis.

The main goal of the traveling program is to inspire children to stay active and keep healthy. The camp travels throughout the year and across the region.

Wildcats Finish 2-1 In Green Devil Classic

The St. James Wildcat Basketball team completed play in the Green Devil Classic finishing with a 2-1 mark in tournament play.

St. James began firstround play with a 73-43 loss to the host school Plaquemine. Keithon Burham led St. James with 28 points. He also hauled down 18 rebounds, delivered three assists and had four blocked shots.

Javis Moll followed with 12 points and TJ Octave added three steals and handed out three assists. Shamar Smith netted four points for St. James.
