Alice Gros Steib

Alice Gros Steib at the age of 81 entered her eternal home surrounded by loves ones. She leaves to cherish her memories with her children; Grant Christopher (Angelina) Steib, Vanessa (Percy) Gasery, Cassandra (Anthony) Bailey and Benoit Steib Jr. of Vacherie. She was a devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, brother in laws and sister in laws LeBoria Burrell Daisy (Ridgely) Mitchell, Rose (Teddy) Boudoin, Paul (Emma) Steib, Russell (Linda) Steib, Lazard (Sharon) Steib, Jacqueline Gros and Imelda Gros. Proceeded in death by her husband Benoit Steib Sr.; grandson Rashaud Benoit Gasery; parents; Olyampe and Naulest Gros Sr.; sibilings Ollie Narcisse, Edmond Gros, Francois Gros, Olivia Morton, Naluest Gros, Gladys Narcisse, Reginia Steib, Nazie Gros and Raymond Gros and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was the Godmother of Rose Jessie, Wanda Gros, Ashley Shephard, Jonathan Dumas and Bruce Wood.

Rita Mae Melancon Lambert

Rita Mae Melancon Lambert passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 7:40 a.m. She was born on June 29, 1924 and was 91 years old. She leaves behind her 7 children and their spouses: Vera and Murphy Poche, Edward “Bud” and Priscilla Lambert, Dennis and Joy Lambert, David and Debbie Lambert, Jhan and Kathy Lambert, Donna and Felix Hebert, and her precious baby, Timothy “Tim” Lambert. She is survived by a sister, Gladys “Gedie” Crowe and a brother: Dudley Melancon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward “Ned” Lambert and her 2 grandsons, Paul and Justin Lambert. She will be greatly missed by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank St. James Parish Hospital staff, Dr. Vellanki, and NP Chad, and St. Joseph Hospice for the great care their mother received. A visitation will be held on March 18, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina, LA followed by a Memorial Mass. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St.

Kenneth Paul Reulet “Stucky”

Kenneth Paul Reulet “Stucky”, 50, a native and resident of Vacherie passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. Stucky lived life to the fullest. He loved spending time at the camp with family and friends, music, and dancing. He especially loved spending his days with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a member of South Vacherie Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years. He served as President, Vice President, Fire Chief, and was currently serving as Treasurer. He was President of the St. James Parish Fire Association and a member of the St. James Parish Planning Commission.

Michael Leo Robert Tassin

Michael Leo Robert Tassin, resident of Vacherie, LA, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday March 11, 2016 at the age of 77. He was born and raised in Metairie and attended De La Salle High School where he participated in track and field. He went on to serve in the United States Navy, was a Fire Chief of the Vacherie Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. An avid hunter and fisherman, Michael enjoyed spending time outdoors and traveling. He was the owner and operator of Vacherie Lumber Company, where he designed homes, and was a part owner of the Goldmine Sugar Plantation in Edgard, LA. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends around the dinner table with stories of family lore and genealogy. Michael is loved and missed by many, including his wife Claire Z. Tassin; son Michael A. Tassin (Kim); daughter Michele A. Tassin (Emily Cooper); sisters Marcia Tassin Hubbard (Jim) and Miriam Tassin Heine; step-children Shawn D.

Trina Shevette Gant (Lil Rat) age 50, was born January 27,1966 and departed on February 27, 2016. She is survived by her parents Harold and Lula Gant; children Rayuntez, Remecca, Relena and Terren Gant; twin sister of Trena Shenette Gant; sister of Irma Gant (Micheal), Harold Jr., Nicole (Herman) Stafford and 14 grandchildren. Preceded in death by her sister, Sabrina Gant-Morris. Trina is the granddaughter of the late Vercy and Beatrice Hogan-Michael; the niece of Sullivan (Barbara) Michael of LaPlace LA, Ronald (Stella) Michael of Gramercy, LA, Everlyn, Geraldine, Charlotte and Yvonne Michael and devoted friend of Wilfred Banks, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Services for Trina will be conducted by her Pastor, Elder E. D. Mitchell and B. M. Mitchell of New Zion Christian Center and the Zion family in Gramercy, LA on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:00 am. Viewing time will be from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Babin, age 95, was born on January 20, 1921 and passed away on March 4, 2016. She is survived by her son, Robert Babin and wife Rose Tassin Babin and daughter, Rose Martin and husband Harry Martin, Jr. Grandchildren: Steven Babin, Angela Babin, Sheri Babin Pietrzak, and Shelli Babin Robertson. She is also survived by 5 greatgrandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvyn “Perrine” Babin; parents Horace and Adine Waguespack; son Albert Babin; sister Gertrude Whitney; and a grandson, Jason Martin. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and served as past Regent; St. Anne Altar Society, The St. Joseph Church Choir, and a lector at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation was on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Rose Lynn Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation resumed on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina at 11:00 a.m.

Leslie “Nutria” Cortez

Leslie “Nutria” Cortez, 62, passed away, February 18, 2016. He was a native and resident of Vacherie, LA. He is survived by his wife, Elaine U. Cortez; son, Jeremy Cortez and fiancée Nicole Louviere; daughters, Ashley Cortez, Danielle Cortez and fiancé Joseph Kraemer; brothers, Aaron and Francis Cortez; grandchildren, Jace Cortez, Carson Cortez and Beau Kraemer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Cortez and Lois Chenier Cortez; son, Shaun Cortez and brother, Neil P. Cortez. Leslie was an avid outdoorsman who loved his family dearly and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 8 a.m. until funeral time at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. at the church with burial following in the church cemetery. Thibodaux Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LeJeanne Borne Luke, age 53 entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Ochsner Medical Center Jefferson. Daughter of the late Carrie Lee and Christopher Borne, Sr. Devoted wife of Lionel Luke. Mother of Lynell and Lionel Beckett. Grandmother of Landyn Beckett. Sister of Yvette (Renaldo) Stewart, Jill (Melvin) White, Valecia (Jerry) Colton, Christopher, Jr., Reginald, and the late Nia Lynn and Meldon Borne. Also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, staff of Metropolitan Dialysis Center, Ochsner Nero Science Critical Care Unit, First Baptist Church were invited to attend her celebration of life on Friday, February 5, 2016 for 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church, 1175 Highway 18, Vacherie, La. Visitation was from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Father Christopher Decker officiated. Private burial.
