President Roussel Updates Council On Status Of Nucor; Council Says Goodbye To Secretary And Outgoing Members

A November equipment failure and low steel prices has prompted the shutdown of the Nucor Steel Louisiana's plant in Convent. St. James Parish President Timmy Roussel told the St. James Parish Council last Wednesday that the plant will remain shutdown until the price of raw materials improve.

Rain-Rain Go Away, Come Back After Thursday

Well, if weather forecasters are correct, and many are praying they are not, it will rain on Christmas Eve and several days leading up to the Lighting of the Bonfires. On Monday morning, several bonfire builders were scrambling to find ways to cover their bonfires to prevent rain water from saturating the wooden structures.

‘Dogs Claim Seventh State Championship With Dominating Win Over Rival Wildcats

There was one absolute fact, when the Lutcher Bulldogs and the St. James Wildcats met on the turf of the Mercedes Benz Superdome last Saturday at noon, the 3-A State Championship and the runner-up trophies would come home to St. James Parish. As far as anyone knows, Saturday’s matchup between the Bulldogs and Wildcats was the first time two teams from the same parish, who play in the same Class and in the same District, met in a Louisiana High School championship game.

One resident complained regarding the Town of Gramercy's time limits on citizens who appear before the council. “I don't like the way the meeting went,” Gramercy-resident Wilbert Ursin told the council.

When the Louisiana Class 3A high school football season kicked off in late August, I do not think there were many, if any, who could have predicted how this season would unfold. Who in their right mind could foresee that when the Class 3A Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Prep Classic is played this Saturday, December 12th, at noon in the Mercedes Benz Superdome, that the Lutcher Bulldogs and the St. James Wildcats would be the last two teams standing and that the winner would have to be from St. James Parish.

“The first time I thought about being a parish councilman was when I was in high school. When I was a sophomore I told my teacher that I wanted to join the military and I wanted to be a councilman.” Following his Marine father, after his junior year at St. James High, Eddie Kraemer of Vacherie signed up for the delayed entry program in the U. S. Marine Corp. He graduated on a Thursday and was on his way to basic training on Sunday

Lawsuit Questions Sen. Troy Brown’s Residency

Last week attorney Daniel Becnel, Jr. filed suit against State Sen. Troy Brown seeking financial damages for allegations that Brown doesn't reside in the district he represents. Becnel claimed that he is a voter in Brown's eight-parish Senate District 2 and hopes the lawsuit will spark a legal review of Brown's residency.

Consultant Tells Council Youth Center Site Could Support Affordable Housing

The 37-acre property of the St. James Parish's Youth Center may have new life as an affordable housing site, Councilman Ken Brass told the St. James Parish Council. Brass said that adding the development to the site would give local residents access to a decent housing stock.
