First-time St. James Parish Council candidate Clyde Cooper scored a local upset when last year when he unseated incumbent Fifth District Councilman Charles “I-Spy” Ketchens. “I can say I was somewhat surprised, but what I heard in the community, it seems like the people were ready for a change,” Cooper said. “It seems to me they wanted someone who would speak their concerns and I believe they had confidence in me that I would be able to produce that for them.

Parish Council Slows Down On Addressing Speed Bumps Laws

A speed bump measure was once again tabled and pushed back until the St. James Parish Council's March 2nd meeting. Initially, the Council tabled the measure in October 2015 that would create a comprehensive and enforceable speed bump policy.

Jenkins Returns To His Roots

Last Thursday was a very, very big day for former Lutcher High assistant football coach and current St. James High head football coach/Athletic Director Dwain Jenkins. Early last Thursday morning, St. James Parish Schools Superintendent Alonzo Luce made the official announcement that  Jenkins would be returning to Lutcher High as the new Head Coach/Athletic Director.

Hopes Of Eliminating Select/Non-Select Split Die As LHSAA Votes To Keep And Expand Current Format

The LHSAA (Louisiana High School Athletic Association) held its annual Convention last week and came away splitting more team sports. The LHSAA principals voted 182-120 to expand the select/non select championship split to baseball, basketball and softball for the 2016- 17 season.

The 50-year old barn still hides the sweet smell of tobacco. The pungent leaves are gone and so are the farm implements used for cutting and stripping. Given a new coat of paint and a new purpose the old building seems reluctant to take on its new role as the home of the River Road Distillery.

Local Officials Weather The Storm To Attend Washington Mardi Gras Ball

As most Louisianians know, nothing stops Mardi Gras, and nothing stopped the 2016 Washington Mardi Gras recently held at the Washington Hilton Hotel. Washington Mardi Gras was only overshadowed, to some respect, by one thing: the record snow dumped on the eastern seaboard, including Washington D.C., by Winter Storm Jonas.

Big Week For Several Bulldog Football Players

To top off winning the 2015 3A State football Championship last December, four Lutcher Bulldog football players have a lot to be proud of and a lot to be grateful for. Senior defensive lineman Sully Laiche and senior linebacker Ben St. Pierre both committed to play football for the Nicholls Colonels in 2016 and junior quarterback Jontre Kirklin and junior receiver Al’Dontre Davis were both offered verbal offers by the LSU Tigers.
