According to court papers filed Monday, April 11th, current St. James Parish School Board member Tyler Jasmin has two weeks to resign as a member of the School Board.

Election This Saturday

This Saturday, April 9, 2016, St. James Parish voters will go to the polls for a Special Proposition Election. Voters are being asked to vote to renew four parish wide millage tax renewals, and voters who reside in the Fifth District are being asked to renew a District V Recreation District Proposition.

Scott grew up on the southern California streets that shaped his early life and his message was universal and eye-opening; and many students, educators and community members connected with Scott and his story.

“I have dedicated my life to helping others because of all my mother, brothers and sisters received,” said Patrick Zeringue, a native and resident of St. James. The third of seven children born to Nelson, Sr. and Eunice Granier Zeringue, he was just fifteen when his father died. “When my dad was living, he shared what he had,” Patrick noted.

School Board And Superintendent Agree To Contract Buyout; Hire Interim Consultant

The tenuous relationship between St. James Parish Public Schools Superintendent Lonnie Luce and the St. James Parish School Board hit its breaking point on Wednesday, March 23rd, when the district's longtime leader announced that his last day on the job would be May 31, 2016. Luce, who has been at the helm of the school district since August 1, 2007, sent out an email touting several accomplishments and delineating when his departure would occur.

The newly approved Greater Grace Charter Academy held the equivalent of a school board meeting on March 22nd. At the meeting, the Vacherie-based Charter School conducted what is best known as “general housekeeping”.

Many were excited to hear talk of a community newspaper in 1976. I remember excitedly turning the crisp newsprint pages to see what was inside. On the first page was a large picture of then-governor Edwin Edwards who was 48 years old at the time.

Six Year Old Killed In Tragic Accident

Tragedy struck in Lutcher last Friday. According to the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office, last Friday, March 18th, at approximately 2:53 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding an accident involving a pedestrian on Lutcher Avenue (LA 3193).
