Legion Baseball Action Concludes With Fort Walton Tourney

In local American Legion Baseball, the Louisiana Sugar Refinery (LSR) will wrap up its schedule with its annual trip to Fort Walton, Fl. to take part in a Legion Tournament that begins Thursday, June 23 and runs through Friday, June 24. Last week, the LSR dropped a trio of games in Legion play to Pedal Valves, Otto Candies and to Townsend Homes.

LSR Continues Play In Legion Baseball Action

In local American Legion baseball, the Lutcher High-based Louisiana Sugar Refinery (LSR) squad suffered a pair of defeats to Holy Crossbased Ponsteins and to Destrehan-based ES&H last week. Against Ponsteins, LSR fell by a 4-0 score. Cameron Poche of LSR allowed no hits, but still fell behind and were unable to answer in seven innings played at Kirsch Rooney stadium in New Orleans.

Bulldog Cage Teams Begin Summer League Play

The Lutcher High Bulldog Basketball team of head coach Chase Delrie continues to keep developing his teams by competing in Summer League Games. In the past the Bulldogs have competed in Summer League games hosted by E.D. White High School in Thibodaux. This Summer Delrie has opted to bring his teams to Woodlawn High of Baton Rouge where the Bulldogs play two games each week on Monday's until in the end of the mouth.

St. James Arc of Vacherie was recently presented with a new basketball goal complements of RAIN CII of Gramercy. Employees of RAIN CII kindly presented and installed the new goal for the enjoyment of the clients.

LHSAA Held Special Meeting To Decide On Expanded Split In State Championships

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) member principals met on Wednesday, June 8 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge to vote on yet another proposal in regards to the select/non-select split for state championships. This saga has dragged on for years and many thought that we were finished with it in January when the member principals voted to continue split championships in football, and expanded the split to include baseball, softball, and girls and boys basketball.

Lutcher Varsity Summer League

Senior Meagan Michel hit a grand slam homerun last weekend. The Lady Pride A, the Lutcher Varsity Softball summer league team, beat LA Magic 5-4 in the finals of their own tournament in Houma.

Pack 59’s 1st Annual Family Fishing Rodeo Recently Held

St. James Parish’s local Cub Scout Pack 59 recently held its first annual Family Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, May 21 at the St. James Boat Club. The weather was beautiful, the fish were biting, and everyone had a blast, catching a total of 6.25 pounds of fish. The Scouts practiced proper fishing and water safety, as well as good sportsmanship and the principles of Leave No Trace.

It Was A Special Season For The Lady Wildcats

The St. James Lady Wildcat Softball team had its finest season under head coach John Bentivegna. The Lady Cats' played a tough schedule and had a team made up of some young talented players on the roster. Several players were honored by being named to the All-District 10-3A team. Freshman pitcher Kiri Parker was named the league's Co-MVP and Bentivegna was named Co-coach of the Year for guiding St. James to the District 10-3A title that was shared with Lutcher and DeLaSalle. "We had an outstanding and record setting year here at St. James," said Bentivegna. "When I was asked to return to coaching and repeat what I did for Lutcher's softball program I knew it would be slow and difficult, but I accepted the challenge.
