River Parish Hornets AAU Track & Field Team

The River Parish Hornets AAU Track and Field Team competed in the Region II National Qualifier Meet at Covington High School in Covington, LA. The Hornets won numerous medals, 13 qualified for the 2016 AAU National Junior Olympic Games that will be held in Humble, Texas on July 29th - August 6, 2016.

Local Boxer Captures National Title

Amateur boxer Trey “The Truth” Alexander is bringing a national title back to Houma. Alexander, a 22-yearold Houma native, won the national title in the 141-pound weight class at the USA Boxing-sanctioned 2016 National Police Activities League Boxing Championships on Friday in Oxnard, Calif.

11 Year Old All-Stars

The St. James Parish 11 year old All-Star team recently went undefeated in the Louisiana All-Star State Tournament in Madisonville, LA. They earned the chance to advance to the 2016 Cal Ripken Southwest Regional, which takes place in ST. JAMES PARISH, LOUISIANA. Please come out this weekend, July 13 - 18, 2016, to Lutcher Park to support your local 11 year old All-Stars. They will be competing against teams from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas.

Softball Camp Big Success

Lutcher's First Annual Softball camp was a big success last week. Along with the Lutcher Coaches and players, former Lutcher star and ULL senior outfielder Kassidy Zeringue were there to give instructions. Hayley Hayden, second baseman for ULL also volunteered her time.

Former Lutcher Star Named Softball Coach At East Ascension

Former Lutcher High and LSU-Eunice player Katie Ocmond has been hired as the head softball coach at East Ascension High School in Gonzales. The 25 year old Ocmond played catcher and helped Lutcher to a Class 3A state title in 2009. She then moved on to LSU-Eunice, where she helped the Tigers win a junior college national title.

Lewis Signs With Gulf Coast Community College

St. James senior Jai Lewis signed to play college football at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College located in Perkinston, Miss. Lewis, a 5 foot 11, 185 pound defensive back was a first team selection on the Class 3A All-State team. He had 102 tackles, nine sacks, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries during his senior year at St. James High School.

LSR Completes Legion Play With FWB Tourney

In local American Legion baseball, the Louisiana Sugar Refinery (LSR) Completed play in the Fort Walton Beach, Florida Tournament last weekend. LSR finished with a 1-3 mark in tourney play. LSR suffered losses in its first three games, but came away with a victory to end the tournament played at Fort Walton Beach.

Register Now To Play Lutcher Bobcat Football

The Lutcher Bobcats Youth Organization, who’s mission is built on teaching the youth safety, proper fundamentals and good sportsmanship concerning the game of football, is now accepting applications/registration to play youth football in the 2016 season. There is a $50 registration fee and parents are responsible to provide transportation to all practices and games, to care for and clean all uniforms and equipment issued, and are responsible for all equipment if lost or damaged.

Lionel Washington Teams Up With Local Church To Hold First Youth Football Explosion

Retired NFL football-coach and player Lionel Washington was in the middle of talking to reporters about his camp when a young boy asked the Lutcher native to throw passes to him. “I’ll do that,” Washington said with a smile and rushed off. Washington hopped right in, loosened up his arm and tossed passes to an ostensibly endless line of kids.
