John T. Levet passed away peacefully at his home in Lutcher on April 28, 2018, at the age of 90. He was born on March 9, 1928, to the late Cora Bourgeois Levet and John M. Levet in Central, Louisiana (St. James Parish). He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Elsie Detillier Levet; 3 daughters: Leslie Levet, Lana L. Tramonte and husband Wayne, Sally L. Edwards and husband Donald, and one son John C. Levet and wife Veronica; 4 grandchildren: Lauren and Alexander Waldo, Lacie Matherne and husband Blake, and Zachary Edwards; one sister, Beverly L. Tagge. He was preceded in death by his brother, Conrad. John retired from Ormet Corporation and the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office. John was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of VFW Post 5852 in Lutcher where he very proudly served through the years as Post Commander, Post Sr. Vice Commander, Post Jr.

Anna Belle Lear Faucheux, age 89, passed away on April 26, 2018. She was a native and resident of Gramercy. She is survived by two sons, Tommy Faucheux (Dusti) and Ricky Faucheux; two daughters, Judith Millet (David) and Patricia Benjamin (Cornell); two brothers, Richard and Anthony Lear and sisters: Winona Braud, Cathy Young, and Diane Young, Glenda Wilson, Mazie Boothe, Nelwyn Louque, and Mary Lambert as well as grandchildren: Grant Millet, Christy Ordeneaux, Tara Berthelot, Chase Millet, Dustin Trosclair, Jenny Robinson, Caitlin Benjamin, Reno Faucheux, John Faucheux, Dallas Faucheux and Tyler Clay. She also leaves behind 14 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kalford Faucheux, parents, Schley and Denise Kliebert Lear, a brother Harvey Lear (Infant) and sister, Brenda Lear (Infant). A visitation in her honor was on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gramercy, LA from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Bruce J. Melancon, Sr

Bruce J. Melancon, Sr., age 69, was born on February 7, 1949 and passed away in his home on April 21, 2018. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Roberta D. Melancon. He is also survived by his children: Stephanie Roussel (Joe), Shelly Oubre (Doug), Sandie, Sonya Zolczer (Forrest), Bruce, Jr. (Terri) and Bobby (Courtney Coulon). He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, his siblings, George “Chuck”, Dale, and Liz Cantillo, and a loving family friend Wendy (Ree Ree) Melancon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Rose Melancon as well as his brother, Brian Melancon. A visitation in his honor was held Monday, April 23, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Rose Lynn Funeral Home, 1870 Cabanose Ave., Lutcher, LA. Visitation continued Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at a later date.

James Warren Porteous, a resident of Lutcher, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the age of 74. He was born in Henderson, Texas on September 3, 1943, but spent his formative years in Lutcher, LA. Jimmy lived in Baton Rouge, Houma, and Jacksonville, FL before returning to Lutcher for the last several years prior to his death. Preceding him in death are his parents, John Courtney Porteous, Jr. and Mary Cochran Porteous and siblings, Beverly Porteous Zeringue and John Courtney Porteous, III. He is survived by his son John Courtney Porteous, IV and former daughter-in-law Marja Demouy Porteous and grandsons, Brody John Porteous, Bo Paul Porteous, and Brock James Porteous, all of Gonzales, LA. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Brenda Wheat Porteous of Gonzales. Also surviving Jimmy are two sisters: Mary Ann Porteous Guidry of Lutcher and Patricia Porteous Eubanks (and husband, Charles) of Daphne, AL as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Timothy Peter Villeret

Timothy Peter Villeret “Timmy” passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 by the side of his beloved wife and children. He was born on March 14, 1961 in Reserve, LA to the late Alvin “Yellow” Villeret, Sr., and Marilyn Cortez Villeret. Timmy is preceded in death by his first wife Cara Berthelot Villeret and survived by his wife Tammy Klieve Villeret. He is also survived by his brothers, Alvin Joseph Villeret, Jr. (Janel Villeret) and Michael Villeret (Kitty Villeret). He has three children: Chase T. Villeret (Anna Wanko Villeret), Marcy Michiels (Adam Michiels) and Kelsey Villeret. Timmy will be missed by all, especially his four grandchildren: Violet, Jack, Zachary, and Laurel Kate. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church in Reserve, LA on April 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Charles N. Becnel Jr.

Charles N. Becnel Jr. of Olla, Louisiana, age 73 passed away Wednesday April 4, 2018 at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana after a brief illness. He was born January 28, 1945 in Vacherie, Louisiana to the union of Charles N. Becnel and Inez Clement Becnel. He was the third of four children. His sisters are Linda Becnel Thibodaux, of Thibodaux, Betty Becnel Allemand, of Texas and his brother Louis "Max" Becnel of Vacherie, Louisiana. He was raised along with his special sister aunt Florence Clement Matherne. Charlie was a 1968 graduate of Nicholls State University. He married the love of his life Charlene Naquin On July 25, 1970. They were residents of Vacherie, Louisiana for 23 years and also of Thibodaux, Louisiana for 18 years. They had three children: Cindy Becnel Lemons (Shannon), Celeste Becnel Verret (Brandon), and Christopher Becnel (Nichole). The joy of his life were his five grandchildren: Bryce Lemons, Ellery Lemons, Duncan Verret, Carter Becnel and Cohl Becnel.

Joyce C. Bourgeois, age 88, was born on August 21, 1929 and passed away in her home on April 1, 2018. She is survived by her children: Keith (Patty), Kyle (Kim Lane), Kim (Dale) Melancon, Kelly (Lynn) Guidry, Kay (Stephen) Guidry; brothers: John (Rosemary) Caldarera, Jr., Glenn (Linda) Caldarera, and sister, Letitia “Letty” (Dwain) Richard. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edmond “Big Boy” Bourgeois, Jr.; parents, John Caldarera, Sr. and Letitia Schexnayder Caldarera as well as her brothers: Joseph “Buster” (Virginia), Louis (Laurence) Sr., Curtis and Myrtis Caldarera, and Noella C. Frazier (Warren, Sr.) A visitation in her honor was on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Rose Lynn Funeral Services, 1870 Cabanose Ave., Lutcher, LA from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Albertine Louis Miller

Funeral services were held Sat., March 31 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie for Community Activist, Albertine Louis Miller, who died March 21, 2018. She was born at St. Joseph Plantation on Feb. 17, 1932 to Marshall “Tee Tout” and Alberta Davis Louis. After graduating from Magnolia High School in Vacherie on April 27, 1952, she went on to attend Katie Wickham’s Beauty School in New Orleans, known for instilling boldness in her “black beauticians,” thereby building community leaders. Albertine completed beauty school on May 10, 1955. She opened a beauty shop at her home and served her clientele for years. When her husband, John Joseph Miller, joined the AFL-CIO, he and his fellow union members were afforded the opportunity to attend human relations classes at Loyola University in New Orleans. When she saw the brochure her husband brought home, Albertine asked for and got permission to take the courses with her husband.

Robert Joseph Jarreau, Jr. (Bobby, Pineapple), a native of Reserve, LA and a resident of Paulina, passed away March 31, 2018 at the age of 64. He was the devoted husband of Doralisa Melancon Jarreau. He is survived by his three sons: Brandon (Krissy), Blake (Missy), and Briley; and his daughter, Emiliana; sister, Joy Cantrelle (Bruce), brother, Wayne Jarreau (Susie). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kayla, Trevor, Devin, and Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elma and Robert (Pineapple) Jarreau, Sr. He was a loving husband and father and loved his family and friends. He had this magical ability to touch everyone in an unforgettable way with his creative mind, big heart, and love for LSU. A visitation in his honor will be Thursday, April 5, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
