Busy Week For Police As Victims Shot On Both East And West Banks Of Parish

The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office was very busy last week as police, within hours of each other, responded to two shootings, one on the East Bank of the parish and another on the West Bank. The West Bank incident left a man dead and the East Bank shooting resulted in a man fighting for his life.

School Board’s Sales & Use Tax Director Named Interim To TRSL Board Of Trustees

The St. James Parish School Board learned Tuesday, October 25th that Director of Sales and Use Tax Neshelle Nogess of Paulina was recently appointed to an interim post with the Teacher Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL) Board of Trustees. Nogess will represent District 1, which is comprised of Ascension, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Charles, Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes.

DWI Task Force Vehicle Hits The Highway; Child Seat Checkpoint A Success

The South Central Regional DWI Unit is ready to hit the road! On October 10, 2016, the South Central Planning and Development, along with the South Central Regional Safety Coalition and its law enforcement partners from LA State Police and the Sheriff's offices of Assumption, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist and Terrebonne have unveiled the first Regional DWI Breath Alcohol Testing Unit in the state of Louisiana!

Councilman Wants Explanation Concerning Clerk Of Court’s Decision To Forego Seeking A Millage To Help Fund Office

District 5 Councilman Clyde Cooper is asking Clerk of Court Edmond Kinler to go before the St. James Parish Council to explain why he has decided not to seek a millage tax to support his office. Kinler earlier ended the tenure of long-time office employee Rita Cooper. At the time, Kinler said he could no longer afford to keep her and other employees because his office no longer generated enough funds to pay salaries and other expenses. Cooper had been employed in the office long enough to collect full salary and benefits even though she was no longer working.

Parish Contracts Firm To Study Parish Recreation; Community Input Sought

The St. James Parish Council has commissioned CSRS, Inc. of Baton Rouge to assess the recreational facilities and user preferences for recreation in St. James Parish. Next week, the Parish will hold four (4) Community Stakeholder Meetings: two (2) on the West Bank and two (2) on the East Bank.

Louisiana Sugar Refinery Discusses Odor Issues With Gramercy Aldermen

During last week’s Gramercy Town meeting, Mayor Steve Nosacka and the Board of Aldermen honored Joshua Taylor as an “Outstanding Young Leader”. Troy Borne, one of Joshua’s teachers/coaches at Lutcher High School, said, “Joshua Taylor is a Christian. He excels at everything from school, to football, to helping in the community. At school, Joshua holds an excellent grade point average, and on the football field he is a leader with his actions. There is not a day that goes by where Josh is not smiling. Simply put, he makes others around him better people through his actions and his faith.”
