Three Bulldogs, Two Wildcats Named To All-District Squad

The All-District 10-3A basketball team was recently announced and both the Lutcher Bulldogs and St. James Wildcats had several players named to the elite squad.

District champion De La Salle, who went 8-0 in league play, had senior Troy Nisby named the Most Valuable Player. Joining him on the All- District team from De La Salle were sophomore guard Rodney Munson and senior guard Dashawn Wright.

Chanel Spring Festival Offers Good Family Fun

If you are looking for some good, clean, wholesome fun this weekend, look no further than the River Road in Paulina and the 2017 St. Peter Chanel Spring Festival.

Held on the school grounds of St. Peter Chanel, the Spring Festival will open this Friday, March 10th at 5:00 p.m. and will end Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

100-year-old Once Crossed The River By Boat To Work At Colonial

Mrs. Inez Aubert was 100 years old on January 30, 2017. She wasn’t home for her big day. She wasn’t feeling well and spent a week with her daughter before going on to spend two weeks with her brother. While she was gone she received over 100 birthday cards from friends, relatives, fellow church members and people of the community.

“Getting to be 100 is a big deal for the community,” Inez said. “But it’s getting to be more and more common as people live longer.”

Drunk Driving Accident Claims Life Of Six Year-old Paulina Girl

Impaired driving has claimed another life, and this time it hits close to home.

Saturday night was a sad night for the St. James Parish community as a six-year old Paulina girl was killed in a tragic automobile accident on Interstate-10 in Ascension Parish.

According to the Louisiana State Police, shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25th, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash on Interstate-10 eastbound east of LA 44 in Ascension Parish.

Local Students To Receive Both High School And College Diplomas This May

By the time they receive their high school diploma this May, Breanna Bailey and Seantrell Lemar will already have an Associate Degree in General Studies from Nicholls State University.

These bright young people are among several St. James Parish students who are enrolled in both the Science and Math Academy (SMA) and Nicholls State University at the same time. Breanna, Seantrell and another student whose parent requested that their child not be included in this article, were the first to complete the Associate’s Degree program.

Spearhead Roxie Martin-Batiste said the Martin Sweet Shop name pays homage to her father, known around the Lutcher community as Bugalow.

Krewe Of M.A.C.Brings Back Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras is back! After a year without a Mardi Gras parade rolling through the streets of Lutcher and Gramercy, the recently formed Krewe Of Making A Change (M.A.C.) brought back a parade on Tuesday and they rolled through a packed main street as parade revelers screamed for beads and other throws. There were floats, cars, motorcycles, bands, dance companies, horses and much more.

Troy Brown Resigns As District 2 Senator

Troy Brown, the District 2 Senator from Napoleonville, resigned from the Louisiana Senate last Thursday, a day before the Senate’s Select Committee on Discipline and Expulsion was slated to take up a vote to possibly oust him from his senate seat. Brown, who has pleaded no-contest twice in the span of a year to criminal charges of abusing his girlfriend and his wife, refused to accept a lighter six-weeks suspension sentence offered him by the senate leadership.
