St. James Parish NAACP Holds Black History Month Program; Kirklin, Narcisse, West And Jones Honored

St. James Parish NAACP 6315 honored Joseph Jones III, Emelda West, Jontré Kirklin and Lowell Narcisse during its third annual Black History Month recognition program held Saturday, February 18th at the St. James Parish Public Relations Building in Lutcher. The four recent honorees join a list of over fifteen honored the previous two years.

Gramercy Mayor Reports On Smoke Testing Of Sewer System

Residents may find smoke in their homes, Gramercy Mayor Steve Nosaka told the aldermanic board. The Mayor said smoke testing of the Town’s sewage system is ongoing and leaks in residents’ piping may allow the harmless smoke to enter homes.

One Last Shot; Poché And Merill Enter Final Season And Are Ready To Leave It All On The Field

How time flies by. It seems like yesterday that Jared Poché and Corey Merrill were sitting in the Dog Pound at Lutcher High School signing on the dotted line to fulfill their childhood dreams of playing college baseball. On that day, Poché signed to play college baseball for the LSU Tigers and Merrill for the Tulane Green Wave.

St. James School Board Revises Memorandum Of Understanding With Greater Grace Charter Academy

The St. James School Board met Tuesday and approved a revised version of a previous Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Greater Grace Charter Academy. The original MOU, which was adopted several months ago, spells out an agreement, which is State mandated, between the St. James Parish School District and the Charter Academy on sharing certain student personally identifiable information for the purposes of determining and confirming the identity of students attending Type 2

New Mardi Gras Krewe Set To Roll Through Lutcher And Gramercy

During Tuesday’s Lutcher Town meeting, a representative of the Krewe of MAC (Making A Change) addressed the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to ask for a permit to have a Mardi Gras Parade on Tuesday, February 28th. Rhyshelle Mizell, representing the Krewe of MAC, told the Board she was in attendance to ask for a permit from the Town.

Councilman Calls Into Question Yuhuang Chemical’s Pre-construction Hiring Practices

Just a day before the Yuhuang Chemical Inc.’s (YCI) hearing on increased air emissions, one member of the St. James Parish Council questioned their pre-construction hiring practices. District 7 Councilman Eddie Kraemer said YCI began hauling dirt and fill for its St. James site near the high school, which is now their property.
