We’ve likely all heard the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Wade and Lisa Faucheux can attest to the truth of the adage. Twenty years ago, this September 16th, the Faucheux family welcomed Paige. A month later, she was diagnosed with Down syndrome.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that one in every 700 babies born in our country per year, about 600 babies, are born with the extra chromosome which causes Down. By November, Paige had grown from her 2-pound birth weight to five pounds and her parents took her home. Within the first year, she was receiving physical therapy and other special services at home.
