Zulma Waguespack Elrod
Zulma Waguespack Elrod passed away Monday, August 15, 2016 in her home surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, William Elrod; her children, Angelique Naquin (Larry) and William Elrod II; her granddaughters, Amanda, Victoria, and Stephanie Waguespack; her 7 younger siblings: Dr. Hubert (Lynda) Waguespack, Rodney (Catherine) Waguespack, Perry (Anelle) Waguespack, Katherine (David) Amedee, Bertha (Jimmy) Brock, Dr. Philip (Michelle) Waguespack, and Jane (Wayne) Becnel; and 24 nieces and nephews. Zu was born in Vacherie, LA to Agnes and Alvin Waguespack on July 13, 1932. She graduated from St. James High School and later from Spencer Business College. As a “city girl”, she worked in the heart of New Orleans as an executive secretary for the American Sugar Company and enjoyed the French Quarter and shopping during her lunch break. She loved to cook for her family and was an excellent caregiver for her husband after he was diagnosed with cancer. She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, a religion teacher and a bereavement committee member. She would always bring delicious treats for those making their Confirmation. It was always in her heart to love and serve the Lord. Everything Zu did, she did with love and generosity. A funeral mass was held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling at 10:50 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or a Catholic charity of your choice.
