Last week’s article led with the statement Prepare for the worst and hope for the best!, which had become the unofficial motto of the St. James Parish community as residents scurried to sandbag homes and prepare for unknown amounts of backwater to flood the Parish’s east bank. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 11th, 12th and 13th, the most rainfall ever recorded (as much as 25-30 inches) fell on most of south Louisiana (from Lafayette to Gonzales) and caused some of the worst flooding this region, this state, and this country has ever seen.
