Parish Library Use Increases Significantly

Adult program attendance at the St. James Parish Library has increased by almost half, according to a report by Library Director Keri Walker to the St. James Parish Council last week. Last year 766 adults attended 51 programs at the library, according to Walker, increasing attendance by 44 percent. Adult programs included ukulele classes, book clubs, book presentations by authors, Dinner-and-a- Book discussions, and the very successful Generations of Struggle program facilitated by Dr. Ibrahima Seck, academic director of

 

Whitney Plantation. The collection of the two parish libraries totals 138,770, of which approximately 70 percent is adult books. Last year the library added ten ukulele kits after hosting a series of lessons. There were 31,856 check-outs at the libraries, and 1,350 data base retrievals
