Russel A. Hymel, Sr., 95, a native and resident of Vacherie, LA, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018. Visitation was from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at St. Philip Catholic Church in Vacherie, LA. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the church followed by burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Poirrier Hymel; daughters, Martha H. Hotard, Grace H. Matherne (Ernie), Barbara H. Kliebert (Greg); son, Russel “Rusty” Hymel, Jr. (Susan); sisters, Yolande H. Waguespack, Geraldine H. Becnel, Elaine H. Troxclair, Frances H. Poirrier; grandchildren, Veronica H. Shields (James), Regina M. Hotard, Angela H. Zimmer (John), Etienne L. Hotard III (Stephanie), Ernie A. Matherne, Jr. (Crystal), Elizabeth M. Elgin (Lee), Jonathan M. Hymel (Lauren), Jordan M. Hymel (Kristin), Lyle A. Kliebert (Meggie), Tommy G. Kliebert (Jill), Vince M. Kliebert; step-grandchildren, Monique Naquin, Raelyn Vilcan; 19 greatgrandchildren; 2 stepgreat-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dozillia Hymel and Marie Waguespack Hymel; brothers, Donald Hymel, Richard Hymel, Huey “Mike” Hymel; sisters, Marguerite Bourgeois, Leonie T. Hymel, Elsie Zeringue, Irma Marchadie, Rowena Labat, Faye Troxclair. Mr. Hymel is a United States Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean War and a retiree of Kaiser Aluminum in Gramercy, LA. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus, he held dearest to him family, gardening, and morning gatherings at Spuddy’s. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. Roselynn Funeral Services of Lutcher, LA was in charge of the arrangements.
