Judge Alvin Turner, Jr. of the 23rd Judicial District last week ordered the Department of Natural Resources is to require Bayou Bridge Pipeline, LLC to “develop effective environmental protection and emergency or contingency plans relative to evacuation in the event of a spill or other disaster… PRIOR (his emphasis) to the continued issuance of said permit.”

Written April 26th, the ruling was made public last week, thereby halting progress on the pipeline which will eventually span 162 miles from Nederland, Texas crossing Louisiana through the Atchafalaya Basin and ending in St. James.

The $670 million project is expected to carry between 280,000 to 480,000 barrels of oil per day and create 2,500 construction and 12 permanent jobs.
