Etienne-Steib First Woman Elected To St. James Parish Council

Last Saturday’s election was one for the history books as the first woman ever was elected to serve on the St. James Pa

 

rish Council. Vondra Etienne-Steib, who also happens to be an African-American, was elected to represent the residents of District 6 as she received 56 percent of the vote to win the election outright. Etienne-Steib, who is the Director of Special Education for the St. James Parish Public School System, beat Shea Stewart and incumbent Jarred Favorite, who was appointed by the Parish Council to serve on an interim basis until last Saturday’s election could be held.
