O’Neil Joseph Rome

O’Neil Joseph Rome, 87, a native and resident of Vacherie, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017. He is survived by his children, Connie R. Marse (Thomas Marse, Jr.), Frances R. DesOrmeaux, Neil Rome (Maureen Becnel Rome), and Donnie Rome (Donna Boudreaux Rome); one sister, Pearl R. Scioneaux; 7 grandchildren, Heather Marse Ordoyne, Hollie Marse Folse, Thomas DesOrmeaux, Jr., Ginger DesOrmeaux Delatte, Heidi Rome Trosclair, Allie Rome Scioneaux, and Ashley Marse Becnel; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dempster Rome; parents, Arsene J. Rome and Annette Stein Rome; one sister, Neva R. Schexnayder; and one brother, Lester Rome. O’Neil proudly served his country in the US Army. He retired from Avondale Shipyards after 40 years. Once retired he enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and will be missed by all who knew him. A visitation was held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. until funeral time. A Mass of Christian Burial took place at 11:00 a.m. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Thibodaux Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
