Transformer Catches Fire At Shell; No One Injured

St. James Parish officials report that no one was injured at the St. James Parish Shell Oil Refinery after an electrical transformer caught on fire at a nearby substation.

The transformer in question, which is actually located on the Ascension and St. James Parish line, caught fire

Tuesday night around 8:00 p.m., and the fire resulted in what officials call an “uncontrolled shutdown”.

St. James Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness Director Francis Hymel said Wednesday morning that there was no impact to the community as Shell was and is conducting off-site monitoring and there has been no exposure to the outlying areas.
