Area Teams Begin Football, Volleyball Practice

So now the grass is cut, weights have been lifted, and now it's time to get back to work. The 2017 prep football season is right around the corner as teams began hitting the practice fields starting this week. Volleyball team practice also got underway along with Cross Country and Swimming.

As temperatures around the state continue to rise, reaching the triple digits in some areas with the heat index, it's important to remind parents, coaches and student athletes of the dangers of heat related illnesses.

There are several types of heat illness, but athletes are specifically at risk of heat stroke, which is caused by intense exercise in the heat. Remember that all athletes sweat at different and lose amounts of salt in the sweat. This can make someone more susceptible to a heat illness different than other athletes.
