Violet Louque “MeMe” Roussel, 88, of Lutcher, LA died on Sunday, June 25, 2017, peacefully surrounded by her seven children. Violet is survived by her sons: Hennis Roussel, Sr., Dennis Roussel (Gaynell), Allen Jerry Roussel (Julie), Terry Roussel (Melissa), Kent Roussel (Laurie), Brent Roussel, and her daughter, Violet Houser (Brent); Along with numerous grandchildren and greatgrand children and her uncle Prentice Louque. She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen J. “Gingo” Roussel; grandson, Hennis J. Roussel, Jr.; daughter- in-law, DeAnna G. Roussel; and Parents: Hennis and Elma Louque. Violet was born on February 22, 1929 and lived her life raising her children in Lutcher. She spent the last four years in Monroe, LA close to her daughter, but her heart was always in St. James Parish. MeMe and Gingo were sole proprietors of Red & White Grocery Store in Lutcher which later became Roussel’s A & G. They worked hard and served their community well. There were many times she fed families that didn’t have the means to pay. She served on the Board of Directors at St. James Bank for many years and played a huge role in the development of recreation sports in St. James Parish. MeMe was loyal to her community and had a love for her children and family that was unmatchable. She loved dancing, sewing, cooking, and had an undeniable love for sports. She was so passionate about her team that she could often be found heckling the umpires from the stands above. She was her team’s one run advantage even on the road. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and administration of The Oaks Nursing Home in Monroe, Louisiana. They provided excellent care for her and loved her just like she was family. A visitation in her honor will be on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Rose Lynn Funeral Services, 1870 Cabanose Ave., Lutcher, LA. The visitation will resume on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gramercy, LA from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial.
