Doris Bourgeois Hymel, 92, of Gramercy, LA quietly departed this life on January 29, 2017 at Chateau St. James in Lutcher, LA. She was the daughter of the late Felicien “Shank” Bourgeois of Morganza, LA and Josephine Braud Bourgeois Mersch of Dutchtown, LA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Denis E. Hymel of Helvitia Plantation, Convent, LA and her sister Joyce Bourgeois Nassar of Metairie, LA. She attended the public schools of Dutchtown, LA and from Dutchtown High School. Doris and her husband successfully farmed a large sugar cane plantation on the River Road of St. James Parish for many years. She was a past officer and member of the Homemakers Club and a volunteer at St. Vincent’s Charity in Lutcher, LA. Doris had a special interest in genealogy and enjoyed researching and meticulously documenting her family’s lineage and history. She loved to cook “River Road Style” and share her wonderful dishes, coconut cream pies and unique recipes with her family and friends. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Chateau St. James, her Gramercy neighbors and especially her close friend Alta Petite for their loving care. Funeral services was held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 with a visitation at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 6484 Louisiana Hwy 44, Convent, LA. from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Convent, LA.
