SCHEXNAYDER
Oswald Joseph Schexnayder, age 91, passed away at his residence on December 30, 2016 at 10:01 a.m., belved husband of Emma Marse Schexnayder, father of Dale Nicholas Schexnayder (Gretchen) and the late Ronald Schexnayder (Jennifer), brother of Albert (Daisy), Roland (Helen), Ralph (Shirley), the late Huey Schexnaydre, Bernardine Duhon (Ned) and the late Ethel Tramonte (Steve).
Preceded in death by parents Nicholas and Melanie Schexnaydre. 6 grandchildren - Michael Schexnayder, Amy Schexnayder Oubre (Rob), Nicholas Schexnayder, Abigail Schexnayder Goggins (Josh), Maria & Therese Schexnayder, 2 step-children Brandon Montz and Kristy Bergeron Bourgeois and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Navy veteran of the Pacific Theater during World War II, he drove a Higgins boat and delivered marines to the beaches of Iwo Jima and Okinowa and was present for the signing of the peace treaty with Japan in Tokyo Bay. Oswald has been a serving and loving parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church and received the St. Louis Award Medal for his many years of church service, especially that of head usher for the past 50 years. He served many years with St. Vincent DePaul Society helping the poor of the parish and worked hard on the school and church grounds repairing anything that was needed. He was a member of the Men of Manresa and American Legion. Oswald will be sorely missed by his family and thousands of friends whom he touched with his love, kindness, service, and indomitable sense of humor. He deeply loved his God, Country, Church, and especially his Wife.
A native of New Sarpy and resident of Destrehan for the past 62 years, he worked his entire life as an air conditioning/heating serviceman and technician.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend services. Visitation at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan, LA on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial in Church Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Fund.
